FIND THE RIGHT SCENT FOR YOU!

Perfumes: find the right scent for you.
Perfume has always been a fascinating product and inspired poets and writers. Well chosen and suitable perfumes make women feel irresistible, romantic or even energetic and are nowadays part of every outfit.

But perfume is not an invention of the last hundred years even though it surely got famous since then. But already the Romans and Egyptians used herbs and fruits to mix pleasant scents for men and women. Flower essences were added centuries later via a distillation process in the orient but the most important development of perfume took place in Europe and especially in France in the medieval age.

In the 14th and 15th century, perfume was mainly used to hide insufficient hygiene and was only affordable by royals and selected upper class families. However, in the 18th century a perfume industry was developed in a little town named Grasse on the French Rivera. Even though the economic zenith is over it is still famous for the design of the most popular fragrances and beautifully embedded in fields cultivating flowers for perfume.
Due to the availability of more raw materials and the logistically good location of Grasse, the use of perfume has become more and more common and affordable since then.

Today, a fragrance can be grouped in four different notes to classify a scent professionally: floral, oriental, woody and fresh notes. Against the common background, these notes are generated not only from flowers and spices but also animal and synthetic sources. Whereas the precise ingredients of each perfume have always been kept secret, most composers of perfumes choose similar ingredients. However, thanks to different proportions the results are always different and not comparable.

The perfume industry is by far one of the major revenue drivers in the cosmetic industry. This is emphasised by famous style icons acting as ambassadors for fragrances e.g. Nicole Kidman (Chanel No.5), Keira Knightly (Coco Chanel), Kate Winslet (Tresor) and Anne Hathaway who promotes the latest Lancome fragrance “Magnifique”. The profits behind perfumes are massive and through licensing the big manufacturers assure rights to use the names of celebrities for their scents. Very often the person stated on the label had no influence on the choice of ingredients and let alone the scent. Mostly the scent is a result of market research and recent trends which are likely to become a huge hit if promoted by the right name.

Despite these economic industry facts perfume is still a product of desire and luxury. It expresses the personality, attitude or even mood of people and contributes to the general well-being. Therefore, a perfume should be carefully selected to make sure that it really suits you and your lifestyle.

Finding the perfume for you can be tricky with a wide range of perfumes on the market. With a difference fragrance for each occasion, make sure you have the right one.

FINDING YOUR FASHION STYLE

Finding Your Fashion Style
Girls and teens want to look sharp and fashion forward. Fashion trends change every season, but there are certain basic items of girls clothes that everyone wants in their wardrobe. Key pieces can be combined to create many different looks. While denim jeans are a staple in most wardrobes, the style of jeans changes regularly. While low rise jeans with straight legs may have been popular in 2005, within a year or so a high waisted jean with wide legs may be the fashion. While each teen may choose her own style and not care about what is popular, the current trendy styles are what will be found in the stores. To know what is in fashion, either start shopping at your favorite local mall or read fashion magazines.

Jeans are a great basic because they can be worn so many ways. For casual wear, add a t-shirt, sweater or plain shirt with sneakers or flat shoes. The same jeans can also be dressed up nicely with a fancy blouse or a camisole with a jacket and heels.

Other key wardrobe pieces are tank tops, turtlenecks, khakis, shorts, slacks, skirts, sundresses and blazers. The styles and colors of these items will also change from season to season. Skirt lengths go up and down, with both a short skirt and a longer style usually in fashion at the same time.

The quality of girls clothes makes less difference because styles change so quickly. Girls will tire of their clothes long before they wear out, so pick what you like that fits your budget and don't worry about durability. Even so, check the label for laundry instructions. Washable clothes are easier and cheaper to maintain than dry clean only.

Experiment to find your own style

One of the nicest things about teen apparel (and of being a teenager in general) is the freedom to experiment. Even the simplest outfit of jeans and a t-shirt can be an expression of the wearer's personality. Jeans now come in an array of colors. Some have decorative rivets, while others display fancy embroidered designs. Even the way the pockets are arranged can be a decorative element.

A t-shirt can be a plain solid color with a round neck or a v-neck. It can be striped or patterned. It can display a message, either for or against a cause, showing off its manufacturer or just saying something amusing. Thus the t-shirt can be a fashion statement, a personal statement or a political statement - you choose.

But the biggest part of the teen apparel experiment comes through accessories. These can be found in department stores and clothing shops as well as in specialty stores that carry nothing else. When selecting shoes, fit and comfort may be sacrificed to style. This may not be a good tradeoff depending on what activities you plan to pursue while wearing them. Be sure to try on both shoes as most people have one foot that is slightly larger than the other.

Shoes can be made of leather, imitation leather, cloth and other materials. Leather shoes are usually the most expensive, but they last the longest. Before making a big investment in shoes, think about how long you believe they will suit your taste, style and wardrobe and how long you might want to keep wearing them.

The handbag or purse is another great accessory. Modern style gurus no longer require matching your purse to your shoes, so go wild. Get a giant bag or a mini-backpack for everyday wear so you can carry all of your stuff. Pick a tiny, shiny bag for that night on the town. As long as it's big enough for your keys, lipstick, money and cellphone, it will work. If you plan an active day, forget the bag and go for a belt pouch. No longer just for athletes, these come in an array of styles and colors like other purses. And when you're ready to get fancy, remember that you can add jewelry, gloves, hats, scarves and more to personalize your look completely.

IS THIS YOU EVERY MONTH???

When paying the bills gets in the way of my shopping
It’s near the end of the month and I find myself fantasising about all the new clothes, hair products and makeup I want to buy. This always happens to me when my funds are at their lowest but I can’t help it. I think it’s to do with the ‘want what you can’t have’ element of human nature that taunts me with images of straight leg indigo wash Topshop jeans or soft cashmere jumpers from Marks & Spencer. Suddenly I notice that I also need a haircut and a better, more expensive moisturiser for my face. I wait in anticipation for pay day, planning and writing lists of the things I need. Even watching my favourite film Into the Wild does not curb my desire for new, fashionable products.

The desire to shop is so intense that it is giving me a headache and I plan for excuses that will allow me to escape work early and drive to the nearest shopping centre. Alas I know that when pay day does finally come there are things that will have to take precedence over my want for sparkly shiny pretty things. Reality is the only thing that gets in the way of my daydreaming…and reality is a rather large and all consuming obstacle. Envelopes are arriving through my door, brown and white official looking envelopes that contain the demands that drain my finances. I know I have to pay my gas and electric bills, my water bills, my rent, my TV licence and my internet bills but it still irks at me. The cost of living just seems so high sometimes. I feel as though that no sooner than I have been paid I have to pay out which leaves me with just about enough money for food and for going out a couple of nights a month.

Of course I try to cut down on things like gas and electric for example, turning lights off when I leave a room and using candles in the evening. This not only saves money but really does create a nice cosy cost effective atmosphere. I also like to think that I am contributing to the ‘green cause’ by energy saving. I try to go over to my mum’s house for dinner as much as possible and I very rarely cook long roasting food items for dinner. My thoughts drift back to my shopping list and I start drooling over the £850 pair of Jimmy Choo Glenys Python Sandals that I have just laid eyes on in my magazine. On my budget I will probably go for something more like the Faith shoes version wittily named LEGALAXY.

I try to concentrate on work in an effort to stop taunting myself with pictures of items that will never be mine. I know that if I work hard I will eventually, one day be able to afford the items that I so covet along with far flung holidays to exotic locations and lots of expensive lotions and potions. Until then those brown and white envelopes are going to continue coming first.
YOU ALLWAYS WANT TO BUY JUST WHEN YOUR BROKE!!

ARTISTIC MAKE UP......YES PLEASE!

THE ART OF ARTISTIC MAKE UP

Artistic Make-up….Yes Please!!!
To look attractive is a never ending desire from the ages for the human beings. Make up provided the solutions to this problem. It enhances the positive parts of your beauty and hides the ugly part cleverly. As the desire to show the beauty and attraction in different perspectives the demand for good make up artists began to trickle in. There are different demands for different occasions, like daily make up, natural make up, party make up, bridal make up, Stage make up, make for photography and modeling and movie and television make up.The word “Make up Artist” gained its relevancy in the 1930s when professional movie production houses felt the need to give the artists a perfect look for the character they were playing.

Usually make-up artists apply make-up and style hair for performers and presenters appearing on film, stage and television (they also help you with the day-to-day or special occasion or bridal make ups). The style varies from straightforward, contemporary make-up and hairdressing to more creative and specialist techniques.Make-up artists play a large role, with important tasks which includes selecting and purchasing supplies, doing 'corrective' make-up and hair tidying, as well as applying full make-up, discussing with individuals/ directors / lighting departments the overall effect that they wan. This also includes lots of research for styles of hair and make-up, how to add prosthetics such as false noses and scars, wigs and hair decorations while doing the make up for movie, television and theatre production houses.

For the professional make up artists working hours are long and irregular, and include evenings, weekends and public holidays. The work area is mainly restricted to indoors. The job of a make up artist is very challenging. To become a good make-up artist he or she should be knowledgeable about a range of make-up and hair products, most important of all is that the make up artist should be innovative, artistic, creative, imaginative and resourceful. The make up artist should be diplomatic and tactful and should be able to cope with nervous individuals and performers and above all make up artist should enjoy working with a variety of people. Good make-up artists must be artistically inclined and must possess a well-developed sense of colour and form. Imagination, initiative and originality are important qualities they should possess. Manual agility is absolutely essential. Since make-up artists work with many people, friendliness, patience and tact are essential qualities they must possess. Make-up artists must be dedicated to their job and be keen to learn and experiment with original and creative ideas.

Make-up artists can specialize in more than one field such as model make-up, old-age make-up, fantasy make-up etc.The make-up artist first analyzes the faces of their clients, before they start applying the makeup. They consider the shape, bone structure, eye shape and complexion of the clients and the outcome they have to produce out of it.

Make-up sessions can be very time-consuming, especially when special effects have to be created, and make-up artists have to stand on their feet for long periods. It could be expected of them to work any time of the day or night. Most make-up artists are freelance so there is intense competition for individual contracts. Artists skilled in both make-up and hair styling have better prospects. Make-up artists usually enter the profession through make-up/beauty therapy courses and begin their career in beauty salons. Many of them start their career in film, stage or television as an assistant. Training for the make up artists is mainly on the job. For freelance make-up artists, advancement depends on establishing a reputation in the business and progressing onto more high profile productions.

HARD TIMES FOR COSMETIC SURGERY?

Hard times for Cosmetic surgery The effects of the credit crunch and the financial downturn across the globe.
You'd think that these days business would be slowing for cosmetic surgery practices. This may be the case for some of the big money procedures but minor procedures such as Botox injections/ fillers are becoming more popular than ever.perhaps the public perseption of the "quick fix" cosmetic application is assumed the most atractive option after a host of celebrities allowed us to follow their plastic surgery adventures in detail and shows such as Channel 4's "10 years younger"with Nicky Hambleton Jones[who has now left the program and moved onto pastures new] showing how cosmetic surgery can be very effective if properly done, It's worth remembering that with these minor, non surgical procedures, there is little or no recovery time. This means that any changes you see will be only minor in terms of perhaps their ability to remove lines and signs of aging .For a more permanent improvment to your looks you will have to pay an arm an a leg[not litarely] for cosmetic surgery procedures such as facelift surgery and lower eye bag removal surgery .but before embarking on this course always remember that the procedures do not always end up what you were expecting and you can be disappointed,Just remember the face you were born with is 99% of the time unique and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder so be careful what you wish for!

TAKING STOCK ALONG THE CATWALK

Tales from the catwalk: Taking stock
With world markets in turmoil, the fashion industry has looked to the future and seen a host of new challenges. Most designers sense change in the air at the 2009 spring/summer shows .

This is not the best of times for the fashion industry to say that we cannot get through next summer without a variety of spangly cocktail dresses, crocodile handbag or wildly impractical stilettoes. When the Dow Jones is crashing like a model in 9-inch heels, fashion isn't a priority for most people. The Milan shows kicked off in the middle of the global financial meltdown and the conversation among buyers was not focused on hemlines, but whether their banks would extend them enough credit for next season's stock. ...

RETRO IS BACK....AGAIN!

Retro is Back... Again!
Everybody loves reminiscing about childhood loves - whether it's favourite cartoons, music groups or books. The feel-good sensation brought on by nostalgia is beaten by no other - which is why so many nostalgia-based, retro products are available today, from printed clothes to tin lunchboxes, comics and films. In recent years, the buzz has been all about superhero movies. With successful first-time cinematic releases for Spiderman, Daredevil, The Incredible Hulk and the X-Men, it was only a matter of time before filmmakers turned to older models to revamp and capitalise on previous success. The latest instalment of the Batman franchise - a semi-remake of the original 1989 film and sequel to 2005's Batman Begins - has been received with extraordinary excitement. In 2006, the Superman film series was picked up again after almost 20 years of downtime. Superman was first created by DC comics in 1938. Batman followed a year later in 1939. Their comic book success is something that we're all aware of. Most Brits will remember some incarnation of the comics, television shows, cartoons and movies that surrounded these superheroes - including merchandise such as clothing depicting the cartoon characters and their logos in the stores; now more than ever thanks to the increase in retro popularity once again. That being said, it's not really fair to say such heroes as Spiderman, Batman and Superman are coming back into fashion – despite the recent influx in new film series and remakes surrounding the superhero franchise, they've never really been all that unpopular. Other things, however, have. If the Spice Girls hadn't broken up and had continued releasing singles and albums since their end in 2001, it's uncertain as to whether their recent The Return of the Spice Girls tour would have been met with the overwhelming success that it was. Driven by nostalgia's desire to relive their childhood fandom, Girl Power devotees ensured that the London concert was sold out in 38 seconds - that's 23,000 tickets. The Spice Girls comeback tour followed the similarly successful return of Take That in 2006. Other bands that have jumped on the wagon include Boyzone and Five. Boyzone recently completed a successful tour, but the latter don't seem to have made much headway after their comeback announcement in 2006. Whatever you think about the various comebacks across all forms of entertainment, it's hard to ignore the sheer nostalgic value many of them bring to remind us of our younger days. Whether it's seeing Batman - yet again - on the big screen or adorning yourself with new 'old' clothes depicting your favourite pre-noughties band or cartoon characters on retro t-shirts, it's safe to assume these 'old' icons will remain in the public eye for a good while to come.
